The DVDA Board of Directors created the DVDA Hall of Fame in 2006 to recognize those individuals
who have made a difference in both the DVD industry and in the development and growth of the DVD Association.

PAUL GREGORY HOLMES
DVDA FIRST CHAIRMAN
2007 DVDA Hall of Fame Inductee
Paul Gregory Holmes was born in Great Britain.
He was educated in England and came to the USA in 1986 where he became a US citizen in 2000.
In 1990, to assist developers and educate the public, Paul, started the Compact Disc Interactive Association (CDIA) A similar group was formed in Europe which later merged with the CDIA to form the International CD-I Association or the ICDIA. Paul became ICDIA’s executive director.
Later the CDIA changed its name to the Interactive Digital Media Association (IDMA) still headed by Paul Holmes to include all emerging television based disc applications. In the mid 90s with the introduction of the DVD platforms, it became apparent that this would be the platform for the next generation, so at this point the IDMA changed it’s name to the DVDA and focused entirely on the DVD platforms. As DVD became the world standard, Paul decided to extend the reach of the organization overseas and started setting up chapters in Europe and Asia.
During his time as DVDA’s executive director, Paul organized many conferences and awards, both in Europe and here in the US including the first DVDA conference and the first awards competition featuring titles on DVD. He was also Editor of the monthly news letter, one of the first to be distributed by e-mail.
Following his retirement Paul now lives in Florida, where he is active creating simple DVD programs for local ‘not for profit’ organizations on a voluntary basis.

Dr. VICTOR R. McCRARY
Past Executive Director, DVDA
Victor
R. McCrary is the Business Area Executive for Science
and Technology for the Johns Hopkins University Applied
Physics Laboratory, JHUAPL, Assistant Department
Head of the Milton
Eisenhower Research Center. He is responsible for the management and
business planning for the Science and Technology
Business Area’s (S&T-BA) strategic investments
for long-term research and development support of
its mission to provide critical contributions to
critical challenges in the areas of national security,
homeland defense and space. In addition, Dr. McCrary
is responsible for engaging APL’s Business
Areas to understand their long-term technology needs,
and in turn develop specific plans to execute and
transition the S&T-BA’s research and development
outputs back to the appropriate APL Business Area.
The Science and Technology
Business Area is predominantly executed by the Milton
S. Eisenhower Research Center (MERC). Formed as part of the post-WWII APL
organizational structure, the Center made a number
of key, business-enabling innovations, including solution
of combustion instability problems critically impacting
air defense missile performance; high-altitude research
originating APL’s space science expertise; and
the invention of satellite navigation, the principal
basis for APL’s entry into the space engineering
field and a key enabler for our entry into undersea
warfare. The Center’s scientists and engineers
have also made numerous scientific advances, which,
although without direct APL business impact, have substantially
increased the prestige of the institution; the most
notable example in this category is the development
of the “big bang” theory of the Universe’s
origin. Recent contributions from the Center include
the development of data access tools incorporated into
the GNCST program, its counterfeit deterrence technologies
used by the US Treasury, the development of thermal
protecting materials for NASA solar exploratory missions,
and its current national leadership in the area of
quantum computational systems.
Prior to joining APL, Dr.
McCrary was the Chief of the Convergent Information
Systems Division at the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST).
At NIST, he lead R&D efforts and standards development
activities in areas of biometrics, digital preservation,
DVD reliability and standards, digital TV standards,
quantum communications, and electronic books. In 2000,
he received the Department of Commerce’s Gold
Medal from the Secretary of Commerce for the facilitation
of global standards for electronic books. During his
tenure at NIST, Dr. McCrary stressed the importance
of student interns and post doctoral associates in
the development of new, innovative technologies. Dr.
McCrary also served as a program manager for the Advanced
Technology Program where he was responsible for directing
over $47M in high-risk, technology programs in the
areas of photonics and electronics.
Dr. McCrary received his
doctoral degree in 1985 from Howard University in
physical chemistry, where he was an Allied Chemical
Fellow. From 1985 to 1995 he was a Member of Technical
Staff at AT&T Bell
Laboratories in Murray Hill , New Jersey , where he
conducted research efforts in crystal growth for semiconductor
lasers. He received an Executive Masters of Science & Engineering
from the University of Pennsylvania in May 1995, where
he was a Moore Fellow. Dr. McCrary’s honors include:
2004 Emerald Honors “Career Achievement in Academia” by
Science Spectrum magazine and US Black Engineer & Information
Technology magazine, and 2002 Percy Julian Award for
Lifetime Achievement in Science and Engineering. He
currently serves on the National Digital Strategy Advisory
Board for the Library of Congress, and is a member
of the Distinguished Lecturers Committee for Sigma
Xi. Dr. McCrary is an adjunct lecturer in the Executive
Masters of Technology Management Program at the University
of Pennsylvania . The program is jointly administered
by the Graduate School of Engineering and the Wharton
School of Business.
Dr. McCrary is a member of the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers, and the National Organization
for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists
and Chemical Engineers, and Sigma Xi. He has authored
or co-authored over 60 publications, and edited two
conference books.

Bernie Mitchell
PRESIDENT SILVER PLATTER PRODUCTIONS, INC.
Bernie’s experience includes having overall responsibility for the launch plans of a new global TV, Radio and Web network, running his own marketing consulting and multimedia production company, and surviving the dot.com madness.
In previous incarnations, Bernie has gathered extensive domestic and international marketing and production experience. He was Senior Producer/Director for iPIX Movies. He and his team were responsible for providing the production infrastructure necessary to create a dynamic immersive, interactive, iPIX Movie. Bernie has produced and directed “Atlantis: Once Upon A Time”, the first iPIX Movie to be streamed over the internet. In addition, he has directed iPIX Movies for various departments of tourism, of the Dixie Chicks in concert, and Bernie’s team also created and posted iPIX Movies from the Olympics and the Burning Man Festival in Nevada.
Prior to joining iPIX, Bernie spent 10 years with Philips Electronics where his responsibilities included introducing digital media hardware platforms and software, including Professional DVD and before that CD-i. As Vice President of Educational Publishing he launched a new business unit for Philips “School 2000”. Bernie is also the Executive Producer of the international awarding winning Philips ProDVD disc.
Bernie graduated from UCLA Film School, and created his own multimedia company in 1979.
He is an Emmy nominated Producer/Director, Past President and former Director of the DVDA, a member of the TV Academy, multimedia person of the year, and a past member of the White House Educational Task Force Initiative.

BRUCE NAZARIAN
President/CEO - Digital Media Consulting Group, Inc. - Las Vegas, NV
Bruce Nazarian is an
award-winning DVD Producer and Author, a globe-trotting DVD consultant,
and President of the DVD Association. He specializes
in digital media production and consuting for video, audio, DVD and the
Web.
Formerly President of Gnome Digital Media, he is currently CEO of
Digital Media Consulting Group, Inc., his DVD and media production
company in Las Vegas, and webmaster of his personal DVD info site,
www.Recipe4DVD.com.
Bruce has toured the world as demonstrator and instructor for a
number of DVD products, including DVD Studio Pro from Apple Computer,
Inc, and Sonic DVD Creator from SOnic OSlutions, Inc.. An active DVD evangelist, he has presented sessions at DVD
tradeshows all around the world, and has coordinated technical
session tracks for DVDA, NAB Post Production Workshop, Digital Media DC, and
Macworld Expo.
Bruce is the author of “DVD Studio Pro 4 – the Complete
Guide for Authoring with Macintosh” for McGraw-Hill, and creator of DVD
Companion Pro-Pack products, used by DVD authors around the world.
An in-demand teacher, Bruce has presented DVD topics at Macworld,
NAB, NAB Post Plus (New York), DVPA, DVPW, NAB PPWC, Digital Media DC,
Avid Master Editor seminar in Florida, DVD Summit IV in Dublin, and
many other trade shows. He is annually the Technical Chair for DVD at
NAB thru his association with FMC, and a constantly in-demand presence
at Macworld Expo.
Prior to becoming "The DVD Guy",
Bruce was a successsful Post Sound Supervisor, and the creator of the innovative Magnolia Studios, one of the pre-eminent DIgital Audio Post facilities in Burbank that hekped pioneer 'virtual mixing". Bruce was an award-winning Sound Supervisor, as well, winning accolades for his creaive work on the sound effects for :Gettysburg" among many features and TV shows.
Interestingly, Bruce has also had a decades-long successful career as studio musician,
artist, and producer. He has been a part
of thousands of recording sessions, and a member of such interesting
and diverse bands as Brownsville Station (Epic Records), Was (Not Was) [Ze Records
/ Geffen Records] and The Automatix (MCA records). He has had chart
success on the Pop charts and R&B charts as lead vocalist for both
Brownsville Station and The 8th Day and as a Producer he had chart success
with numerous Dance 12" singles and,more recently, Smooth Jazz.
He is the proud recipient of several DVDA Excellence Awards, a few Grammy awards, an Emmy nomination and an Oscar Nomination for his work in Audio Post-Production, the MPSE Golden Reel Award, and many others.

Jim Taylor is the Chairman of the DVDA Board, and internationally recognized as the leading authority on DVD. Jim has been the guiding light of the DVDA over the past few years, and the Association recognizes his dedication and committment to both the industry and our Association.
Author of DVD Demystified and Chief of DVD Technology for SonicJim Taylor is Chief of DVD Technology and General Manager of the Technology Products Group at Sonic Solutions, the leading developer of DVD authoring systems. He is the author of DVD Demystified, the best-selling book about DVD technology, published by McGraw-Hill. Called a "minor tech legend" by E! Online, Jim created the acclaimed Internet DVD FAQ, writes articles and columns about DVD, and sits on advisory boards of leading-edge companies in the DVD industry. Jim received the 2000 DVD Pro Discus Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry, and was also named one of the 21 most influential DVD executives by DVD Report. He has worked with interactive media for over 20 years, developing educational software, laserdiscs, CD-ROMs, Web sites, and DVDs, along with teaching workshops, seminars, and university courses. Before joining Sonic in 2001, Jim was DVD Evangelist at Microsoft, and was formerly VP of Information Technology at Videodiscovery, an educational multimedia publishing company.

Richard French Vice President, DVDA, and President Integrity Interactive guided the DVDA over the years, thru the tortous between formats and associations from CD-I to CD-ROM to DVD, and from the CDIA, IDMA and DVDA. The DVD Association recognizes the dedication and committment that Richard has made both to the industry and our association.
Richard has been in the interactive multimedia industry for over a decade. He has served as President of Gulliver Ritchie Associates; VP of RISE International and is currently President of Integrity Interactive, Inc. Richard has been involved with numerous trade organizations including the ASTD and has served as Chairman of the CDIA, IDMA and DVDA. He has been recognized as one of the Top Multimedia Producers in North America by AV Video Multimedia Producers Magazine. |

Ralph LaBarge is a Past DVDA Board Member and Treasurer. He molded the DVD Excellence Awards to become the premier DVD Awards program. A program based on recognizing excellence not just another competition. Ralph personifies the heart and soul of the DVDA, always reminding us that it is the interests of the development community that we serve first. The DVD Association recognizes Ralph for his dedication and committment to both the industry and our Association.
Ralph was not able to be at the induction ceremony in Los Angeles but sent this message to be read:
"I would like to thank the Board of Directors, and the members of the DVDA for inducting me into the DVDA Hall of Fame. Unfortunately I could not be here tonight to accept this award personally.
The DVDA and its predecessors - IMA, SIGCAT and IDMA - have been around since before DVD was born in 1996. It seems like only yesterday when many of us were struggling to understand the newly released DVD specifications, and trying to figure out how this new multimedia publishing format would affect our businesses.
With the advent of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD products, our businesses are facing some new and exciting challenges. Publishing content in the new HD formats will offer us new business opportunities, as well as a number of technical, marketing and business challenges. The DVDA is well positioned to assist developers in embracing these new formats, and to help companies integrate Blu-Ray and HD-DVD into their existing DVD-Video and DVD-ROM publishing businesses.
I completed my first DVD project in 1996. Since then I have given countless presentations on DVD technology, completed over 500 DVD projects, written a book on DVD authoring, published over 100 consumer DVD titles, and won a few industry awards. Looking back it is amazing how far the industry has come over the past decade. We should all be proud that our efforts have helped to make DVD the world’s most successful consumer electronics format.
I am humbled to be included in the DVDA Hall of Fame along with Jim Taylor, Jerry McFaul, Aleen Stein, Richard French and Randy Hudson. Thanks again to the members and Board of Directors of the DVDA for this tremendous honor. I apologize for not being able to be here in person to accept this award, and I would like to congratulate Jim, Jerry, Aleen, Richard and Randy for their well deserved recognition."

ALEEN STEIN
ACTING SECRETARY | BOARD MEMBER 2006 DVDA Hall of Fame Inductee Aleen Stein was instrumental in the success of not only the New York DVDA Chapter but spearheaded our involvment with Reed-Midem, MIPTV and MIPCOM, greatly expanding the DVDA internationally. Aleen also keeps the Assocation focused on the needs of the content holders and creators, reminding us that DVD is not always about "tech" but should always be about content. The DVD Association recognizes her dedication and committment to both the industry and our Association.
Allen is currently Director of International Licensing at Scholastic Inc.'s Software Group, and is also a founding partner and former president of the Criterion Collection, which published the first and most extensive special home video editions of film on optical disc. She also is a founding partner of Organa, one of the pioneers in DVD (www.organawest.com). She has been publishing, creating and selling interactive titles for more than 18 years, contributing to more than 300. After seven years directing Voyager's operations, PR, and marketing, in 1991 Ms. Stein initiated and led Voyager's international division, including acquisitions, product development, sales, marketing and operations. The Criterion Collection (www.criterionco.com), a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, is dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. Criterion began with a mission to pull the treasures of world cinema out of the film vaults and put them in the hands of collectors. RANDY HUDSON

Randy Hudson is one of the founders of the New York DVDA Chapter, and directly responsible for it's continued success. He is actively involved in associatioin partnerships and Chapter Development as has worked closely with guiding the UK chapter in it's development. Randy reminds the DVDA to adhere to goverance issues and is the leader of the DVDA Jam Band. The DVD Association recognizes Randy for his dedication and committment to both the industry and our Association. Formally trained in broadcast electronics and as a musician and composer. In the mid 80's began working with CAD and CNC millwork equipment. In 1990 as co-owner of a video and audio media production facility began managing media production for Sony Music, Capitol Records and Group W Westinghouse. Former Director of sales for Wings Digital Corporation (96-97) and New Media/CD-Rom sales for Allied Digital Corporation (98-99). In 2000 formed Broadness LLC, a convergent media company, specializing in online A/V media workflow solutions for the entertainment, ad/marketing, publishing and corporate communities. In 2001 Broadness LLC and United Entertainment Media formed PlanetStor, a web accessible service portal for providing on-line workflow solutions that serve the entertainment, film/television and ad/marketing communities.

JERRY McFAUL
GOVERNMENT RELATIONS 2006 DVDA Hall of Fame Inductee Computer Scientist, U.S. Geological Survey
Jerry McFaul is the DVDA's government liason. He is responsible for integrating SIGCAT members into the DVD Association. Jerry has been keeper of the DVDA database and our continued contact with NIST. Jerry is also a founding member of the DVDA Jam Band and plays a mean set of drums. The DVD Association recognizes Jerry for his dedication and committment to both the industry and our Association. Mr. McFaul is a computer scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey. He has held many technical and managerial positions, both in and out of the Federal Government. In the late 70's, he quite literally brought the first PCs into the USGS, where they now number in the thousands. He established the first CD-ROM Support Center at the USGS that has resulted in the publication of hundreds of scientific CD-ROM products over the last decade. He also founded a CD-ROM special interest group at the USGS in 1986 that ultimately became a non-profit foundation and the world's largest user group on this technology (SIGCAT), with over 11,000 users in 75 countries. In his current role as a staff scientist, he is the principal investigator of optical storage, focusing on the use of CD and DVD technologies in data-intensive applications such as GIS.
Mr. McFaul has published many articles on the global implications of CD technology and has testified several times before Congress on the Federal Government's use of this technology to enhance its data dissemination activities. For over 15 years, Mr. McFaul has been helping the Geological Survey as well as many other Federal, State and local organizations understand and apply CD-ROM (and now, DVD-ROM) technology to a wide range of information management and dissemination activities. Through his many speeches and seminars, Mr. McFaul has facilitated the use of these technologies to make available to the general public the Government's vast data holdings.
